About us

Carnes Landeiro was founded by Joaquim Novais de Carvalho, the head of the Carvalho family, and a live cattle dealer who, along with his children, formed a partnership as a means through which to expand his business.

That is how Carnes Landeiro came about in July 1977, in Landeiro, in the parish of Nine, in Vila Nova de Famalicão, northern Portugal having gained its name from its place of origin.

Operating as a pig slaughterhouse to satisfy societal needs at the time, the company quickly became aware of an increase in market demand, as well as the requirements being placed on all slaughterhouses and meat processing units due to changes in legislation.

Armed with this knowledge, the entire expansion of the company was strategically outlined, both to respond to the growing demand for its products and for the desire to significantly improve production conditions. And so the desire grew, to build larger and more modern facilities.

The new industrial unit was completed in 1993, in Silveiros, Barcelos. Equipped with more developed equipment and systems, it allowed Carnes Landeiro to position itself among some of the best meat companies in Europe, thanks to its pig and cattle slaughter lines, cutting and boning lines, and a meat processing plant, where a wide range of traditional Portuguese charcuterie products are manufactured. Alongside these operations is a logistics unit that covers operations across Portugal, as well as exports.

For logistical reasons, the company would take on its current name in October 1999 – Carnes Landeiro, S.A.

Customer satisfaction is our priority.

Landeiro Group

Carnes Landeiro, S.A.
The company currently has two slaughter lines, which work simultaneously, but on separate schedules.

The pig slaughter line, which has a capacity of 120 animals/hour, is exclusive to the company, which goes on to sell 50% of the meat in carcasses and 25% in pieces, while 25% of it is processed. The carcasses are not sourced in Portugal in their entirety.

Unlike the pig line, the cattle slaughter line, which has a capacity of 50 animals/hour, or around 1000 animals/week, works almost exclusively outsourced (with about 30% of the animals slaughtered being sold).

Carnes Landeiro, S.A. it also has pig and cattle cutting and deboning lines, from which some of the cut/deboned pigs are then transferred to the processing line.
Processed products are produced in traditional smokehouses and/or electric drying ovens.

With a qualified and extremely competent team, the company stands out as a benchmark in its sector, providing its customers with products and services of the highest quality, as well as managing the entire distribution process thanks to its properly equipped fleet.

Agro Landeiro, S.A.
Founded in 1996, Agro Landeiro, SA, another company in the group, is a farm covering an area of around 30 hectares, producing all the fodder to feed and fatten about 700 cattle, mainly of which are Charolais, purchased from breeders in the Alentejo. This allows Carnes Landeiro to gain even more control over its production, thus ensuring quality and a total, strict control of all raw materials used.
